We are pleased to announce the appointment of James P. Holland as the new president of Johns Hopkins HealthCare. James will join Johns Hopkins Medicine on Sept. 30, assuming the position previously held by Patty Brown. He will report to Robert Kasdin and the board of JHHC. James will lead the four managed care businesses in JHHC in their efforts to ensure that excellent, high-quality health care is delivered to our members. He will also oversee the Health Innovation business unit of JHHC, including HealthCare Solutions and ventures. James brings significant experience and a strong record of success in the managed care industry. He previously served as the vice president for alliance business with Anthem, Inc., a national health benefits company. In this position, James led the development and management of multistate government program partnerships, including joint ventures with providers and insurers. Since assuming responsibility for the business in 2014, he led the growth of alliances from $250 million to over $6 billion, serving over 1.4 million lives. During his eight years with Anthem, James also served as vice president for product development, responsible for new capabilities and Affordable Care Act market entry, including Medicaid expansion and exchange products. Prior to joining Anthem, James held senior level positions with WellCare Health Plans in Florida and Katzenbach Partners in Texas. Early in his career, James served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the U.S. Naval Academy and his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. James will be joined by his spouse, Shawn, and two daughters. We would like to thank the search committee and Dr. Andy Satin, who co-chaired the committee with Robert Kasdin, as well as those who met with the candidates for their generous commitment of time and very thoughtful comments. We are confident that James is the right leader to help Johns Hopkins HealthCare and Johns Hopkins Medicine achieve their goals. Please join us in welcoming him to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
