Thank You and Congratulations!

Dear Johns Hopkins Hospital Colleagues,

We did it! Although we are still very much in the thick of a transition that we have anticipated for years, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate your contribution to today's last and largest Johns Hopkins Medicine Epic go-live here at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Congratulations to all of you who helped make this possible. Thank you to the team that worked through the night on the transition from Sunrise to Epic; the project leaders, teams and trainers who have worked for months to help ensure a smooth go-live; our super-users and members of the support pool; and the 10,000 new end-users who were trained to convert to the new electronic medical record system and who will be working this weekend and next week to learn to use Epic while caring for our patients.

An on-site Epicenter is now open 24/7 through July 21 and is the main hub for triaging issues. If you have any questions about how to use the new system or encounter any issues, first contact your unit's "red shirt"—a super-user or member of the support pool who can offer on-site assistance, answer questions, troubleshoot problems and escalate issues. Urgent issues will be assigned the highest priority, and noncritical optimization issues will be reviewed and prioritized by the inpatient or ambulatory Johns Hopkins clinical informatics committees.

If a super-user is not available, you can also get help:

  • By phone: at 2-2777 or 410-502-2777
  • Within Epic Hyperspace: Epic >> Epic Help Desk >> Submit a self-service ticket
  • From the JH portal: my.jh.edu >> Helpdesk >> Epic Help >> Submit a problem ticket

We personally thank each of you for your extraordinary hard work and commitment to making the Epic go-live a success. We know that this ambitious undertaking has added a tremendous amount of time, responsibility and stress to each of your daily workloads.

Although there have been and will be bumps in the road in the coming days and weeks, we are excited and hopeful for what lies ahead. Watch this video that emphasizes the importance of the Epic implementation for all of us and our patients. We have achieved a significant milestone for Johns Hopkins Medicine and our patients – one patient, one record!

Sincerely,

Redonda G. Miller, M.D., M.B.A.
