2016 Employee Engagement Survey Begins Today Dear Colleagues, Each year, we ask you to participate in the Employee Engagement Survey. Similar to an annual checkup with your primary care provider, the Employee Engagement Survey is just one way we monitor the health of our workplace so we can continue to build a better work environment for you. Last year, we were pleased to see an increase in the overall GrandMean, or average score, for Johns Hopkins Medicine, from 3.81 in 2013 to 3.89 in 2015 (a survey was not administered in 2014). Gallup tells us that employee engagement is linked to better safety, improved patient experience and higher employee retention. We want to continue the momentum from last year and make sure you have what you need to continue to set the standard of excellence in health care. The Gallup Organization will administer the Employee Engagement Survey again this year from March 21 to April 10 for all Johns Hopkins Medicine faculty and staff members. Please set aside about 10 minutes to complete the survey. In addition to the 12 core questions, you'll be asked an additional set of questions about accountability, growth, respect and diversity. Today, you will receive a formal invitation from Gallup to take the survey and a unique, randomly selected code to access the survey online. This code will ensure your confidentiality. For the first time, employees also have the option to complete the survey using a single sign-on via the Johns Hopkins portal. Visit login.johnshopkins.edu/gallupsurvey, or simply log on to my.jh.edu, hover over the HR icon on the left-hand side of the page and select the Gallup Survey icon. While this option allows employees to use their JHED IDs to access the survey, the results remain confidential. Once we share the results in early summer, please plan to review your team's scores with your colleagues. Discuss strategies to reinforce your strengths and to improve your areas of opportunity. Now is the time to own your engagement. Thank you in advance for your input. Sincerely, Paul B. Rothman, M.D. Ronald R. Peterson
