CFO Transition for Johns Hopkins Medicine International

To Johns Hopkins Medicine leaders

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to inform you that Vinh Nguyen is resigning from his position as Johns Hopkins Medicine International's vice president and chief financial officer to accept an executive director position with Cleveland Clinic. Jim Clauter, director of financial reporting for The Johns Hopkins Hospital, has agreed to serve as Johns Hopkins Medicine International's interim CFO.

I am deeply grateful to Vinh for his extensive contributions to Johns Hopkins Medicine, including:

  • Instituting a culture of continuous improvement and fact-based decision-making with information transparency and new IT infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with key leaders to negotiate and structure a number of international health care advisory service contracts and affiliations.
  • Renegotiating existing service contracts with external vendors—from facility to travel management—to raise service levels and savings.
  • Recruiting for and overseeing key leadership functions in IT, business analytics and patient financial services.

Jim is a 20-year Johns Hopkins Health System finance veteran, and his extensive background in health care financial management will be valuable while we conduct our search for a CFO candidate. Jim has developed an in-depth knowledge of Johns Hopkins Medicine International finances in his current role at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, a portfolio that includes international and out-of-state patients. He has contributed to the Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare joint venture through supporting the finance function and SAP implementation process in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

Jim will ensure that Johns Hopkins Medicine International remains in a strong financial position to continue providing the best possible experience for our out-of-state and international patients and families, and to keep building sustainable platforms for health care delivery overseas. He will provide leadership in financial planning, budgets and projections; managing assets and operating cash flows; and the financial operations of new and existing affiliates, projects and business development opportunities.

Jim's interim role takes effect Jan. 14, 2016, though he will be spending time at Johns Hopkins Medicine International during the next few weeks to participate in meetings and ensure a smooth transition.

Thanks,

Pamela D. Paulk
President
Johns Hopkins Medicine International
Senior Vice President, International
