Dec. 8, 2015: Kathy DeRuggiero Named Vice President of Patient Services for Johns Hopkins Medicine International Dear Colleagues, I'm very pleased to announce that, following a national search, Kathy DeRuggiero, a 32-year Johns Hopkins nursing veteran and leader, has accepted the position of vice president of patient services for Johns Hopkins Medicine International, effective immediately. Over the last five months, Kathy has served admirably as interim vice president during a critical time in Johns Hopkins Medicine International's evolution. In this role, she will continue to collaborate across Johns Hopkins Medicine International, the Johns Hopkins Health System and beyond to lead the development of the model and resources needed to deliver the promise of medicine for our diverse patient populations here and abroad—a model that considers the entire patient journey and ensures holistic, measurable results that last well beyond the immediate visit. Throughout Kathy's accomplished career at Johns Hopkins, she has demonstrated her ability to lead in complex environments and leverage her extensive institutional and clinical knowledge. In her most recent role as director of nursing for emergency medicine and critical care transport, Kathy was responsible for oversight of emergency services, the adult emergency department, urgent care and the emergency acute inpatient service. Ground ambulance, helicopter, fixed wing transport and the intrahospital transport nursing practice were all under her purview, with a total staff of nearly 300. Kathy holds a joint appointment at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and has published several articles related to operations improvement in emergency medicine. She received her bachelor's and master's of science degrees in nursing and a doctorate in nursing practice, with a focus on leadership development in complex health care systems, from the University of Maryland. Kathy's leadership skills, extensive institutional relationships and knowledge of Johns Hopkins will serve us incredibly well. Please join me in formally welcoming her to this critical role! Best, Pamela D. Paulk |
