To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community
Dear Colleagues,
Several weeks ago, we provided an update on the work of the task force groups established in the wake of Baltimore's civil unrest. These groups had the mission of identifying projects and initiatives that could address the challenges faced by many in our community. After diligent work by these groups over the summer and early fall, their respective co-chairs recently presented proposals to Johns Hopkins Medicine leadership on sustainable projects that will help make our city stronger.
These thoughtful recommendations will provide a path for Johns Hopkins Medicine to support the needs of the community by focusing on whole families through education, civic engagement and community partnerships. We will be reviewing the proposals and, in collaboration with community partners, will select projects that are achievable, sustainable and meaningful to the community. We will continue to update you on these efforts as they move forward.
We would again like to thank the task force members for their commitment and the co-chairs of each group for facilitating this work: Community Facilities—Tom Lewis and Ted DeWeese; Education—Anne Seymour and Jude Crino; Employment—Bonnie Windsor and Keith Hill; Social Support Enhancements—Namandje Bumpus and Kostas Lyketos; Trust Building—James Page and Robert Blum; and Youth Mentoring—Daniel Teraguchi and Pablo Celnik.
Many of you are already quite active in your support of our city. We appreciate all that you do and are committed to playing a more active role as an institution. Together we can build a safer, stronger, more vibrant Baltimore.
Sincerely,
Paul B. Rothman, M.D.
