Chief Administrative Officer Positions Established

Dear Colleagues:

As Johns Hopkins Medicine continues to evolve and respond to the rapidly changing healthcare environment both nationally and as a result of the new Maryland Hospital Waiver, ongoing focus on the integration priority of our Strategic Plan is critical. We must align quality, value and financial performance across the enterprise. As an institution, we need to be more value- and population health-based, and more focused on providing cost-effective care. We must also develop and strengthen strategic relationships with other health care systems and community organizations, all while furthering our tripartite mission.

Achieving this means that Johns Hopkins Medicine needs to develop new and viable models of care to enhance the JHM delivery system, both from a clinical and administrative perspective. It is imperative that all components of the delivery system effectively work together to drive thoughtful growth, patient- and family-centered care, and to ensure we are delivering the right care at the right place and at the right cost.

To better position us to achieve these objectives, we are working to create administrative leadership roles that address market demands and needs, as well as departmental operational requirements. I am pleased to announce that we are establishing several new chief administrative officer positions to partner with you in the goal of accelerating the development of several interdisciplinary care models along with improved operational performance from a JHM perspective. While these positions might vary based on departmental and organizational needs, they are designed to provide much-needed leadership and administrative bandwidth so that we can focus on opportunities for coordination across departments and member hospitals. With our collective effort, we hope to provide a more integrated patient experience, while contributing to clinical efficiencies, performance improvement, and expansion and integration of clinical areas with high market demand.

Being prepared to compete in today's health care environment and fulfill our tripartite mission depends greatly on our efforts to develop a more integrated delivery and financing system that benefits our patients, operations and institution. These new positions will coordinate with partners across the organization to ensure that Johns Hopkins Medicine is well-positioned to achieve better internal performance, grow market share and adapt to use resources more efficiently.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Lewin, M.D.
Senior Vice President, Integrated Healthcare Delivery
Martin W. Donner Professor and Director, Radiology and Radiological Science
