Selwyn Ray, J.D., Director, Johns Hopkins Health System Community Relations

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Selwyn Ray, J.D., is the new director, Johns Hopkins Health System Community Relations. His primary responsibilities will be at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and he will also have an additional broader role for community health outreach for the Academic Division.  At Johns Hopkins Bayview, he will oversee programs to educate and support our neighbors; lead the Medical Center's Community Advisory Board; lead our community health needs assessment and action planning; and participate as a member of our Executive Council. Within the Academic Division, Selwyn will help us develop and strengthen inter-campus and inter-departmental programs as we work to improve the health of our neighbors and neighborhoods.

Selwyn holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law and is pursuing a master's degree in theology at St. Mary's Seminary. Before joining Johns Hopkins, Selwyn most recently served as executive director and senior vice president of community engagement for the Maryland Mentoring Resource Center. He also was the interim president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake from 2012 to 2013.

Selwyn's leadership and experience in engaging community members, strategically building relationships with local government officials and agencies, and directing community health activities will be assets as he begins his new role with us.
