Ronald Werthman Named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Johns Hopkins Medicine and CFO for the School of Medicine Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce that Ronald J. Werthman has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer for Johns Hopkins Medicine and chief financial officer for the school of medicine, effective July 1. Ron, who currently serves as the senior vice president of finance, treasurer and CFO of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, will assume the position currently held by Richard Grossi, who retires at the end of June after 37 years with Johns Hopkins. In his new role, Ron will direct and oversee finance activities for all of Johns Hopkins Medicine—a position for which he is uniquely qualified. In addition to his many accomplishments over his almost 22-year career with Johns Hopkins, Ron has ably led the operational and strategic direction of finance at the hospital and health system, establishing strong internal controls and business practices that have resulted in best practice metrics and guided our success. As the co-leader of JHM Finance and of our Strategic Plan's performance priority, Ron has found creative ways to reduce costs across the system while maintaining and even improving our high standards in patient care. His initiative and leadership of our supply chain transformation has saved $13 million in fiscal year 2014, and we are on track to save $20 million in fiscal year 2015. In addition, Ron orchestrated Johns Hopkins Medicine's agreement with Pittsburgh-based Highmark/Allegheny Health Network last year to increase our footprint as we collaborate on cancer care, research, education and quality improvement in the Pennsylvania market. This collaboration was followed by a joint venture with Allegheny to strengthen our purchasing power across the two health systems. Before joining Johns Hopkins, Ron was vice president and chief financial officer of Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He also held similar positions at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y., and Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Sincerely, Paul B. Rothman, M.D. Ronald R. Peterson
