Jan. 15, 2015: Pamela Paulk Named New President of Johns Hopkins Medicine International

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce that effective March 1, Pamela Paulk, M.S.W., M.B.A., will assume the role of president of Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI), overseeing our ever-growing international enterprises.

In this role, Pamela will lead JHI—working closely with executives and clinical leaders throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine—in the development of international priorities and strategies that advance the JHM mission. She will also oversee high-impact global health care collaborations and the provision of medical concierge services for thousands of international, out-of-state and local patients with interpretation needs.

We are extremely pleased that the extensive national search, conducted by an external recruitment firm, led to the selection of one of our internal candidates. Throughout Pamela's 16-year career at Johns Hopkins, including her most recent role as senior vice president of human resources for Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins Health System, she has demonstrated her ability to lead in complex environments, to integrate large-scale operations and to develop constructive business relationships across diverse groups.

In 2005, while Pamela was vice president of human resources, and when JHI was developing its global strategy and stabilizing its international relationships, she served for two years as vice president of global services, capably leading the team to identify new projects through a careful due diligence process. Since then, she has continued to provide support to our international efforts and has visited or worked on almost all current JHI global collaborations. She will leverage this experience to partner with our clinical directors to strengthen and expand our international involvement in all parts of the mission.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins in 1998, Pamela held various executive, leadership and consulting positions in the areas of health care administration and business development. She holds a master's of business administration from The Johns Hopkins University and a master's degree in social work and a bachelor's degree in science from Florida State University. Pamela also has made significant contributions to the community, having served in leadership positions on boards throughout Maryland, and has been honored with venerated awards, including White House Champion for Change (2014) and Top 100 Women in Maryland (2004, 2010).

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mohan Chellappa for an excellent job in leading JHI in an interim capacity during the transition period, and we are pleased that he will continue in his role as president of global ventures after March 1.

Pamela will begin her new position by working with leaders and staff members to develop a strategic plan with special emphasis on increasing capacity for patients from out-of-state and international markets. We are certain that she will ensure that JHI continues to provide the best possible experience for its patients and families, and to build sustainable programs to improve health and health care overseas.

Please join us in welcoming her into this critical role.

Sincerely,

Paul B. Rothman, M.D.
Dean of the Medical Faculty
CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine

Ronald R. Peterson
