Queenie Plater Named Vice President of Human Resources for Community Division Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce that Queenie Plater has been named vice president of human resources for the Johns Hopkins Medicine Community Division, which includes Howard County General Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital. She currently serves as the vice president of human resources for Sibley Memorial Hospital. In addition to her impeccable credentials and successful track record in human resources, Ms. Plater brings a keen understanding of the critical importance of all our employees to our continued success. She knows how to nurture and leverage our most treasured asset—our employees—to not only obtain our business goals, but, more importantly, to make sure patients receive the compassionate and quality care they deserve. Ms. Plater began her career at Sibley as an employment assistant. She quickly rose through the ranks and was named vice president and chief human resources officer in 2005. She is also co-chair of human resources for the District of Columbia Hospital Association. Until 2010, she taught at Georgetown University's School of Nursing and Health Studies. While there, she also served as an academic preceptor and executive mentor in the university's Health Systems Administration program. In 2002, then-Maryland Gov. Parris Glendening appointed her commissioner for the Community Services Reimbursement Rate Commission. She received her master's degree in applied behavioral science from The Johns Hopkins University and her bachelor's degree in organizational management from what is now Washington Adventist University. As our health system grows and evolves during a time of unprecedented challenges within the health care landscape, the leadership model within the Community Division must adapt to serve the goals of the individual organizations and overall system strategic priorities. At the same time, we are in the midst of enormous financial pressures that mandate that we become ever more productive and efficient while cutting costs through improved integration, coordination and collaboration. This appointment represents a further step in that direction. We were able to eliminate redundancy by consolidating three human resources vice president positions under a senior human resources vice president position. This move not only achieves a significant cost savings, but it also increases efficiency and coordination across the Community Division and within the system. Queenie will assume her new position on Sept. 16. Please join us in wishing her well in her expanded role. Sincerely, Pamela Paulk
