Notice Regarding Settlement Announcement To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community Dear Colleague, Since last fall, the Johns Hopkins Health System has been engaged in settlement discussions with attorneys representing people who may have been affected by the actions of Dr. Nikita Levy. We would like you to know that we have come to an agreement that the plaintiffs' attorneys and Johns Hopkins Health System believe is fair and properly balances the concerns of thousands of plaintiffs with the Health System's obligations to provide ongoing and superior care to the community. It is our hope that this settlement—along with law enforcement's findings that no images were shared—helps all who have been affected to achieve a measure of closure. The settlement is for $190 million—all of which will come from insurance funds. This settlement, which has been formalized by the plaintiffs' attorneys and the Health System and given preliminary approval by the judge, will not in any way compromise the ability of the Health System to serve its patients, staff and community. We are all partners in safeguarding our patients' privacy and trust. Because an employee was willing to step forward, we were able to immediately put a stop to Dr. Levy's behavior. If you ever have a concern, please share it through our compliance hotline or website. Every matter is taken seriously and handled discreetly. The number is 1-877-WE-COMPLY (1-877-932-6675) and the web address is www.mycompliancereport.com (Access ID: JHU). Reports are anonymous, and someone is available 24/7 to address your report. We understand that this announcement may prompt some questions. If someone asks you about details related to the settlement class or the allocation and disbursement of funds, please refer them to Jonathan Schochor, the chair of the plaintiffs' steering committee, at 888-234-0001. Any and all media inquiries should be immediately referred to Media Relations & Public Affairs at JHMedia@jhmi.edu. At difficult moments such as this one, it bears repeating that one individual does not define us. The work you and your colleagues do to provide and support world-class patient care speaks volumes about Johns Hopkins. We are appreciative today and every day for the work you do as part of this institution and in support of the community. Paul B. Rothman, M.D. Ronald R. Peterson |
