Thank You for Putting Patients First

Dear Colleagues,

I can't say it enough: Our people and our patients are our top priorities, and as we complete the third day of the strike at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, I'm reminded of your commitment and dedication to put our patients first.

Throughout the past three days, you have maintained business operations and quality patient care. Many of you have taken assignments—from food service to housekeeping to patient transport to customer service—and you've done so very graciously on top of your normal duties. For that, I am sincerely appreciative.

A lot of information about the strike has been circulated in the media over the past several days, and I want to be sure you have our perspective. While we continue to refrain from discussing details of the negotiations and proposals through the media, I want to emphasize that we have been working diligently for several months now to reach a settlement that is fair for our union-represented employees.

We hope for a positive resolution and look forward to welcoming back to work our bargaining unit colleagues. In the meantime, please continue to put our patients first, as you have always done.

I am attaching a public statement I made this morning that summarizes our commitment to providing uninterrupted services to our patients and our commitment to offer competitive compensation to all of you.

Thank you for all you do.

Ronald R. Peterson
President, The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System
