Strategic plan update: What is integration and why is it important?

Dear Colleagues,

Multiple integration efforts are underway or are under consideration. As part of these initiatives, we will:

• Integrate all parts of JHM, including our delivery system across the Baltimore Washington region, our pediatric hospital in Florida, and our insurance/managed care arm, to enhance the health care delivery and financing system for our patients.
• Develop new models of care that drive costs down, eliminate waste and inefficiency, optimize outcomes, and improve the health of the patients we serve across the health system.
• Use the Epic electronic medical records system to deliver better integrated, efficient and quality care.
• Leverage our research and teaching strengths to bolster our delivery system and to build new relationships that will shape the future of medicine.

Being Johns Hopkins Medicine means being the leader of the academic medical center community and defining the road ahead for integrated health care. We look forward to working together with you on this important work and will communicate additional progress as the year unfolds.
