Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare Launched Today (Jan. 28) Dear Colleagues, We are proud to announce the official launch of Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare—Johns Hopkins Medicine's joint venture with Saudi Aramco, a world leader in energy. Just hours ago, we attended the inauguration ceremony—along with a delegation of more than a dozen Johns Hopkins leaders—to witness the unveiling of the new health care organization in Dhahran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The day was a tribute to our shared vision to enhance the well-being of the Saudi Aramco community over the long-term by providing innovative, integrated and patient-centered care to its 350,000 employees, beneficiaries and retirees. Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare will contribute significantly over the coming years to health and well-being in Saudi Arabia. This venture will seek to improve population health through scientific innovation, clinical care and training of clinicians, nurses and health care professionals—the very principles that have defined Johns Hopkins Medicine throughout our 124-year history. Combining Saudi Aramco's existing health system with the transformative science, patient care and education for which Johns Hopkins is known, Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare will become an incubator for clinical and scientific progress, addressing some of the region's most pressing health challenges, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other chronic conditions. This venture takes our international expansion to a new level. Under the terms of the initial 10-year agreement, Saudi Aramco and Johns Hopkins Medicine will each hold an indirect ownership stake in the new Saudi registered company, and both organizations have involved some of their best leaders to run it—including our own Keith Vander Kolk (chief executive officer), Linda Gilligan (chief operating officer), Zeina Khouri-Stevens (chief nursing officer) and Sharon Myers (chief quality and safety officer). One of our major contributions will involve consulting and knowledge transfer from 14 clinical areas, with an additional focus on education and training programs related to nursing, quality and safety, research, and leadership development to ensure sustainability into the future. We hope you share in our excitement about this partnership and in supporting our colleagues here and abroad who are contributing to this massive effort, as we fulfill our mission of improving the health of the community and the world by setting the standard of excellence in medical education, research and clinical care. Sincerely, Paul B. Rothman, M.D. Ronald R. Peterson Steven J. Thompson, M.B.A. |
