Martha Zeiger, M.D., Appointed Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs To SOM faculty Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to announce that Martha Zeiger, M.D., assumed the role of associate dean for postdoctoral affairs as of Jan. 1 upon the retirement of Levi Watkins Jr., M.D., from this position. Dr. Zeiger is professor of surgery, oncology, cellular and molecular medicine; head of endocrine surgery; and associate vice chair of research in the Department of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Zeiger received her B.S. in biology from Brown University and her doctorate from the University of Vermont. After completing an internship in medicine at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, Calif., she pursued residency training in general surgery at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She then became an attending surgeon in the U.S. Navy before completing her fellowship training in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. Dr. Zeiger joined the faculty in the Department of Surgery at Johns Hopkins in 1993. Dr. Zeiger has had extensive experience with postdoctoral education and has mentored many students and postdoctoral fellows during her professional career. She directs a National Institutes of Health-funded laboratory focused on the investigation of molecular markers that can help distinguish benign from malignant thyroid neoplasms and can also provide key prognostic information. In this role, Dr. Zeiger works closely with many postdoctoral fellows and other trainees, also an important part of her role as director of the endocrine surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins. Please join me in congratulating Martha and welcoming her as associate dean. Sincerely, |
