Ralph Hruban to Serve as Interim Director of Department of Pathology To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce that Ralph Hruban, professor of pathology and director of the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center, has agreed to serve as interim director of the Department of Pathology following the departure of J. Brooks Jackson on Feb. 16, 2014. Ralph is known worldwide for his breakthrough work in pancreatic pathology. He established the National Familial Pancreas Tumor Registry at Johns Hopkins and is part of the team that discovered some of the most significant genetic changes that give rise to pancreatic tumors. The team has also identified a number of genes involved in hereditary cases of pancreatic cancer. In addition, Ralph has made immense contributions to the training of future pathologists, and he is a lead author of the widely used textbook Tumors of the Pancreas and an editor of the World Health Organization's blue book on digestive-tract tumors. Michael Borowitz, professor of pathology and the department's deputy director for education and for clinical affairs, will assist Ralph with the day-to-day management of the department. Please join us in thanking Ralph for taking on this new role. Sincerely, Paul B. Rothman, M.D. Ronald R. Peterson |
