Roy Ziegelstein Appointed New Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development Dear Colleagues: We are pleased to announce that Roy Ziegelstein, M.D., the Sarah Miller Coulson and Frank L. Coulson, Jr., Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center has become the new Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Development. In this role, he will direct the Office of Faculty Development and will work closely with Janice Clements, vice dean for faculty, to help ensure that our faculty members fulfill their professional potential. Dr. Ziegelstein received his M.D. from Boston University in 1986, and was inducted in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Ziegelstein completed his internship and residency in internal medicine on the Osler Medical Service at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1989 and was an Assistant Chief of Service (ACS) at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1989 to 1990. Dr. Ziegelstein completed his cardiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins in 1993, with a joint appointment at the NIH. He then joined the cardiology faculty at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he has been on faculty continuously since 1993. Dr. Ziegelstein directed a vascular biology research laboratory on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus from 1993 until 2005; his research focused on endothelial calcium signaling and its regulation of vascular gene expression. For the past 15 years, he has been a leader in research on depression and cardiovascular disease. A leader in education and diversity, Dr. Ziegelstein also directed the internal medicine housestaff training program at Johns Hopkins Bayview from 1997 to 2006, a time in which the diversity and quality of the training program increased greatly. He is a five-time recipient of the George J. Stuart Award for Outstanding Clinical Teaching, and he has received the Professor's Award for Distinction in Teaching in the Clinical Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
