Richard “Chip” Davis named next President of Sibley Memorial Hospital

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to inform you that Richard “Chip” Davis has been named President of Sibley Memorial Hospital receiving unanimous approval from Sibley’s board of trustees. Mr. Davis will officially begin his duties on July 6, 2012.

Mr. Davis joined Johns Hopkins in 1993 and currently serves as vice president for Innovation and Patient Safety, as well as executive director for Johns Hopkins East Baltimore ambulatory operations. His collaborative style and ability to work with physicians, nurses and other clinical staff helped him in establishing the Johns Hopkins Medicine Center for Innovation in Quality Patient Care. In that role, he led a highly successful system-wide drive to improve quality core measures with the goal of making Johns Hopkins the safest hospital in the world. Chip holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in health policy and management from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. With extensive experience in inpatient and ambulatory operations, quality improvement, innovation and safety, Chip brings a wealth of experience to his new position.

During the search process, many members of our leadership team had the opportunity to spend time with Mr. Davis. We were impressed with the depth of knowledge, experience and vision he brings to this position. It is truly an exciting new era for Sibley.

Mr. Davis will have the opportunity to work closely with Bob Sloan in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition and we are fortunate that Mr. Sloan will be serving as a senior advisor to the Johns Hopkins Health System and will play a prominent role with the Sibley foundations.
