Announcing New Vice President and General Counsel for JHHS/JHH Dear Colleagues, It is a true pleasure to announce that G. Daniel Shealer, Jr. has been appointed vice president and general counsel of The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation and The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dan brings to the position a wealth of experience in corporate, legal, governance and regulatory matters. He has served as the Health System’s deputy general counsel for the past seventeen years, ably managing a 20-attorney legal department. He had a leadership role in bringing to fruition the recent affiliations with Suburban Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and All Children’s Hospital, and the subsequent integration of those hospitals into the Johns Hopkins Health System. He previously was senior counsel for corporate and regulatory affairs, leading oversight of business, tax and regulatory matters for the Health System. Prior to joining Hopkins, Dan was an attorney at two Baltimore law firms, practicing primarily in the health care field. He received his bachelor’s degree cum laude in 1981 from Juniata College in Pennsylvania and his law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1984. He serves on the boards of trustees of Howard County General Hospital, Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, Suburban Hospital Healthcare System, and the Legal Aid Bureau, where he also serves as Treasurer, and on the Mayor’s Leadership Advisory Group to End Homelessness in Baltimore City. He succeeds Joanne Pollak, J.D., who assumed the duties of chief of staff to the Office of Johns Hopkins Medicine on July 1, 2011. She will continue to serve as JHM’s senior vice president and general counsel and continue to oversee internal audits for the Health System and HIPAA compliance for the Health System and The Johns Hopkins University. Dan will remain the Health System’s vice president for compliance and deputy general counsel for Johns Hopkins Medicine. He’ll also serve as secretary of the boards of Johns Hopkins Medicine, the Health System and The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Please join us in congratulating Dan and supporting him in his important new role. Sincerely, Edward D. Miller, M.D. Ronald R. Peterson
