All Children's Hospital and Health System joins Johns Hopkins Medicine

Dear Colleagues,

We're pleased to announce today that All Children's Hospital and Health System is now a fully integrated member of Johns Hopkins Medicine and part of the Johns Hopkins Health System. Located in St. Petersburg, Fla., All Children's Hospital is the only hospital on Florida's West Coast solely dedicated to children's care and draws patients from all 50 states and 36 foreign countries, and it's the first hospital outside of the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., metro area to join Johns Hopkins Medicine.

All Children's mission—based on the understanding that it's not enough to treat the disease, but that true progress comes from the teaching and research to cure the disease—mirrors our own. We are excited about the opportunity to expand the reach and impact of our current pediatric, clinical, teaching and research programs nationally. This partnership will allow us to develop a new residency program at All Children's and form centers of excellence that leverage the strengths of both programs to create significant new knowledge and processes to improve the health of children.

With its new 10-story, 259-bed hospital and adjacent Outpatient Care Center devoted to pediatric specialty care, including heart transplantation, blood and marrow transplantation, trauma services and neonatal intensive care, All Children's, like Hopkins, is ready to meet the quality, safety and technological needs of our changing market. The hospital is part of the billion-dollar All Children's Health System, which includes more than 2,800 employees on its main campus and 10 outreach centers that provide specialty rehabilitation and therapy.

Under terms of the integration, All Children's Hospital will retain its name and longstanding commitment to the children of Florida and its community. To help expand the academic mission for All Children's, Jonathan Ellen, M.D., will serve as Johns Hopkins School of Medicine vice dean for All Children's Hospital and as physician in chief at All Children's Hospital. This information will be made public at a press conference at All Children's this morning, but we wanted you to hear it first. To learn more, visit http://www.allkids.org/.

Sincerely,

Edward D. Miller, M.D.
