April 30, 2010 Celebrate the Life of Dr. Henry Seidel on June 1 A celebration will be held June 1 at 4:30 p.m. in Turner Auditorium to remember Henry M. Seidel, M.D. (1922-2010). Dr. Seidel was a beloved mentor, pediatrician, educator and friend to the Hopkins community. He died of complications from lymphoma at his home in Columbia, Md., on March 24 at the age of 87. Dr. Seidel was professor emeritus of pediatrics and a former dean of students at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine—a master educator who shepherded generations of Hopkins medical students through their training. He joined the faculty of the School of Medicine in 1950 and became an attending pediatrician at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1953, spending his entire professional career at Hopkins. He continued to see patients and teach students for nearly 20 years after he retired formally in 1990 at the age of 68. In the nearly seven decades that he spent at Hopkins, Seidel became an indispensable force in the institution. He was revered by fellow pediatricians and loved by students, many of whom never ceased to seek his professional wisdom and personal advice, long after they had become physicians and faculty members. Please join your colleagues as we celebrate the life of this extraordinary man on Tuesday, June 1. A reception will immediately follow at 5:30 p.m. on the Turner Concourse. Parking is available in the Rutland Garage adjacent to the Turner Auditorium. For more information, contact Kim Martin (kmartin7@jhmi.edu) at 410-516-4958. |
