January 20, 2010 New Associate Dean for Policy Coordination It is with great pleasure that we announce the well-deserved promotion of Julie Gottlieb to associate dean for policy coordination. In this unique post, Julie will further expand our conflict-of-interest and compliance initiatives across the institution and maximize our national profile. As assistant dean and director of the Office of Policy Coordination since 2003, Julie made vital strides in the area of conflict of interest and brought Hopkins policies large-scale recognition as the industry standard. A national leader in conflict of interest, Julie is a co-founder and chair-elect of the Association of American Medical College's Forum on Conflict of Interest in Academe and a regular speaker at numerous national association meetings, and she travels to many academic medical centers across the country educating audiences about conflict of interest and promoting the responsible conduct of research. Under her steady guidance, the Office of Policy Coordination oversaw the review, development and implementation of intricate policies in areas such as interaction with industry across Johns Hopkins Medicine, conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, professional and research misconduct, and use of the Johns Hopkins name and brand. A major hallmark of her tenure has been the conversion to an electronic system for the disclosure of outside interests and conflicts of interest --- a move that many others are emulating. Join us as we warmly welcome Julie to her new role. Sincerely, Edward D. Miller, M.D.
