We want you to hear it first: Today we completed documents to officially integrate Suburban Hospital Healthcare System into the Johns Hopkins Health System. Through this transaction, which involves no monetary exchange, SHHS is now a wholly owned subsidiary corporation of JHHS and a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
This is the perfect partnership. It integrates two financially sound organizations that have been collaborating for the past 13 years. With each having strong reputations and solid relationships with the National Institutes of Health, this alliance will allow us to expand our research and increase our number of clinical trial participants, while providing our communities greater access to coordinated and efficient care.
Under the terms of the integration, SHHS will operate under the same structure as The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Howard County General Hospital and retain its voluntary medical staff. This initiative will strengthen our ability to serve patients, as we continue our commitments, relationships and projects with all of our current partners, including Anne Arundel Medical Center and Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
Suburban Hospital will not change its name, and both leadership and day-to-day operations at Suburban will remain the same. The official announcement will be made public tomorrow; further plans will be detailed in the coming months.
