We are pleased to announce that Gordon Tomaselli, M.D., has been appointed director of the Division of Cardiology within the Department of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute.
Gordon’s relationship with Johns Hopkins goes back 23 years. After graduating from Albert Einstein Medical College and completing his residency and research at the University of California San Francisco, he came here in 1986 as a cardiology fellow and joined the faculty three years later. He is the Michel Mirowski Professor of Cardiology and holds an appointment as professor of cellular and molecular medicine. For the last five years he has served as the vice chair for research of the Department of Medicine.
A fundamental investigator who has made remarkable contributions to cellular electrophysiology, Gordon has conducted research that’s advanced our understanding of cardiac arrhythmias and the pathophysiology of sudden cardiac death.
He is a fellow of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society and was president of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society. He also has held several leadership roles in the American Heart Association.
