May 22, 2006 Dear Colleagues: I am pleased to relay to you Cornell University's announcement that Charlie Phlegar will become its vice president for alumni affairs and development later this year. Charlie, as you know, has been serving as interim vice president for development and alumni relations at Johns Hopkins since January. Previously, he was senior associate vice president. He joined Johns Hopkins in 2001 as associate vice president and has been instrumental in the success of The Johns Hopkins Campaign: Knowledge for the World, which has raised $2.2 billion for the university and Johns Hopkins Medicine. The opportunity at Cornell is a well-deserved one for Charlie, who is an outstanding development professional and a valuable colleague. He will be working in Ithaca with Dr. David Skorton, a distinguished leader in higher education who becomes Cornell's president this summer. Provost Steve Knapp, Senior Vice President Jim McGill and I will be working with Charlie and with Mike Eicher, the incoming vice president for development and alumni relations at Johns Hopkins, to ensure a smooth transition. With the support of our outstanding development and alumni relations staff, our efforts will not, I am confident, miss a beat. Cornell's announcement is at http://www.news.cornell.edu/pressoffice1/May06/Phlegar.html Warmest congratulations and best wishes to Charlie from all of his many friends at Johns Hopkins. Sincerely, |
