December 16, 2005 Dear Colleagues: We are pleased to announce that Reverend Uwe C. Scharf, Ph.D., has been named Director of the Pastoral Care Department at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Rev. Scharf received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Switzerland, a Master of Sacred Theology from the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, and a Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology from the University of Virginia , where he was also a research fellow in the Center for Biomedical Ethics. His clinical pastoral education (CPE) training took place at the University of Virginia and at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. For the past five years, Rev. Scharf has been Associate Director of the Pastoral Services Department at Duke, where he has served as curriculum and accreditation coordinator. He is the author of a number of articles and essays and has published a book on the theology of Paul Tillich. Rev. Scharf plans to assume his new role at Hopkins in mid-January. Joining him in Baltimore will be his wife, Deepti Goel Scharf, a native of New Delhi, India, and their eight-year old daughter, Uma Klara Goel Scharf. Please join us in welcoming the Scharfs and in offering all possible help to Rev. Scharf in his new job. And please join us in thanking Rev.
