September 28, 2005 Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students, The Peabody Institute is poised to embark on an annual tradition -- the start of our concert season. For the past 149 years, Peabody has served as a cultural beacon for the Baltimore community and beyond. This year is no exception. Our season features renowned Peabody artist-faculty in solo and chamber performances; world-class guest artists presenting classical and jazz offerings; and our talented students, who will delight you with their nuanced performances. Our unique situation as a music conservatory within a leading research institution like Johns Hopkins allows for faculty, students, and staff to experience new realms of creativity -- in the classroom, in the lab, and on the stage. As I begin my term as interim director of the Peabody Institute this weekend, I invite you to experience Music for the World -- our 2005-2006 concert season. Whether you are a fan of opera, jazz, or the classics, Peabody has something for everyone. The season opens this Saturday, October 1, at 8 p.m. with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, directed by Hajime Teri Murai, presenting music by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Shostakovich. In addition to our student tickets -- already available to all JHU students (only $8 with student ID) -- we are extending a special offer of half-off a regularly priced ticket to all JHU faculty and staff for this opening concert. Simply show your Johns Hopkins ID at the Peabody box office or call 410-659-8100, ext. 2, to get your special discount price of $9 a ticket. Details on Saturday’s concert -- and the nearly 100 other events in our season -- are available online at http://www.peabody.jhu.edu/concert_season I look forward to sharing the applause with you. Sincerely, |
