October 7, 2004 Dear Colleagues: Another faculty pioneer has died. I regret to inform you that W. Gordon Walker, a giant in the field of kidney disease and hypertension, died on Tuesday night. For his 50th medical school reunion, Dr. Walker recounted a lifetime of achievements. In addition to his scientific accomplishments, he played a significant role in obtaining early funding for kidney dialysis, and in establishing the precursors to our IRB and GCRC. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 12, at 2 p.m., at University Baptist Church 3401 N. Charles St. The family will receive visitors at Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home 6500 York Rd. Monday, October 11, from 5-7 p.m. Dr. Walker's wisdom and friendship will be missed.
