June 3, 2004 Dear Colleagues, Many of you may have seen fliers being distributed by the District 1199E-DC Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to employee members of the Union, stating that the vote on the strike has been postponed and that the SEIU and The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) will reconvene collective bargaining tonight, June 3rd, 2004. It is correct that the JHH negotiations team will be meeting with the SEIU tonight. Please be advised that the postponement of the strike vote does not preclude the SEIU from engaging in a two-day strike beginning Tuesday, June 8th, 2004, at 6 a.m. Be assured that we will work diligently on behalf of the employees and the organization tonight in hopes of reaching a fair agreement. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Harry Snow, Director of the Office of HR Consultants and Employee Labor Relations, at (410) 614-3731. Also, please refer to the Hospital's website for updated information regarding the collective bargaining process: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/laborrelations For more information concerning what you need to know in case of a strike, see the operations plan summary: http://www.insidehopkinsmedicine.org/news/attachments/strike_2004.cfm An update on the negotiations issues may be found at: Sincerely, Pamela D. Paulk
