Celebration Events including Dr. Elias Zerhouni, Director of NIH speaking
in Turner Auditorium on "NIH Strategies for Medical Research: Accelerating
Progress Through Interdisciplinary and Translational Research"
Dear Colleagues: I invite you all to take part in the events we have planned for May 25 to celebrate our new research building on Broadway. The celebration includes hearing from our former colleague Dr. Elias Zerhouni, touring the new facility, and enjoying some food and drink in the building's shadow. The first event open to all at Johns Hopkins Medicine is a talk by Dr. Zerhouni, Director of the National Institutes of Health, who will speak in Turner Auditorium beginning at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Zerhouni, who was instrumental in the earliest developmental stages of this building, will share his thoughts on how our new facility fosters interdisciplinary and translational research, key facets of the NIH "road map," a strategic vision to transform medical research. His talk is titled "NIH Strategies for Medical Research: Accelerating Progress through Interdisciplinary and Translational Research." After Dr. Zerhouni's talk, groups will meet at 2:15, 2:45 and 3:15 at the elevator lobbies on each of the building's research floors (3 through 8) to tour laboratories and hear from the "local" researchers. The last celebratory event will be a reception from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on the Turner Plaza, or in the Turner concourse if rain is expected. I hope you'll be able to take part in this celebration, which marks a new era in Johns Hopkins research.
Edward D. Miller, M.D.
