September 23, 2002 Dear Colleagues, Yesterday, Johns Hopkins Medicine lost one of its greatest leaders: Thomas B. Turner who was a part of us for 75 of his 100 years. He truly will be missed, for he continued to guide us with his great wisdom and his knowledge and love of Johns Hopkins. Every 3-4 months I would get a hand written note from him commenting on something at Hopkins he had seen and always saying that he felt Hopkins was in good hands. His words meant so much to me and were the epitome of this wonderful gentleman scholar. When you pass through the Turner Concourse, look up and see the portrait of a man who contributed so much to our "heritage of excellence." His obituary is below. His dedication to advancing science and to "kindly care" continue to serve as an inspiration. Sincerely, |
