August 1, 2002 Dear Colleagues, The JHU School of Medicine could be content to rest on its laurels, given the overall good scores received in the recent Employee Satisfaction Survey. But it is not! According to Kevin Sheridan, the President of HR Solutions, the vendor involved in the Employee Satisfaction Survey, the scores received by the SoM were very impressive, and compared favorably with national norms in many of the dimensions surveyed. However, Dr. Ed Miller and the SoM are not satisfied to ride on past success and are regularly seeking ways to make the best even better. Therefore, department chairs and administrators have been required to submit individual departmental action plans outlining how improvements are being planned at the departmental level. In addition, more global issues that affect the entire School are being reviewed by various units, including Human Resources and Facilities, to identify means of responding to the excellent feedback and suggestions provided by the many interested faculty and staff who took the time to share their opinions. Look for further details in a JHU SoM Employee Satisfaction Survey progress report in the fall. And as always, stay informed! JHU uses many different ways to communicate with staff and faculty. For instance, check out the following JHU web pages for an invaluable, comprehensive listing of current JHU/School of Medicine benefits, policies and other useful information. http://www.jhu.edu/news_info/policy/ http://www.jhu.edu/~hr1/benefits/ http://www.jhu.edu/~hr1/carmgt/cmphot.htm http://www.jhu.edu/~hr1/train/outline.html http://www.jhu.edu/~hr1/train/outline.html We look forward to continuing to provide you with details about the progress being made by the JHU School of Medicine, based on your feedback and suggestions, to make our organization even stronger and a place where we all feel proud and satisfied to work! Sincerely, Gloria Bryan |
