James Page Departing Johns Hopkins Medicine

To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community

Dear Colleagues,

I write to inform you that James Page, vice president and chief diversity officer, is departing Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) effective July 31, 2018.

The JHM Office of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) was established in 2014 to advance institutional priorities regarding diversity and inclusion – two core values of our community. James served as the inaugural leader for that office. Over the last four years, James and his team collaborated with stakeholders and leaders across the system to help foster a climate of respect and inclusion and to ensure we are providing culturally competent patient care.

Among his numerous accomplishments, James served as an executive sponsor for the Johns Hopkins Center for Transgender Heath, and he and his team helped increase the number of women and members of underrepresented minority groups in faculty and leadership positions while creating new forums for attracting and supporting a diverse student body. D&I launched Diversity Councils systemwide, established new Employee Resource Groups for affinity groups across the system, initiated the "Diversity Annual Report" to share stories of how diversity enhances Johns Hopkins, and created the Religious and Cultural Observances Toolkit to educate our community about diverse faith traditions at the workplace and in patient care. Moreover, his team partnered with the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, Government and Community Affairs, and leaders and stakeholders across the system to address health disparities and to ensure that all patients receive equitable and culturally competent treatment.

To find new leadership for this important office, we will conduct a national search, facilitated by an executive search firm and led by an internal committee. Inez Stewart has agreed to serve as interim chief diversity officer in addition to her role as JHM's senior vice president of human resources.

Please join us in thanking James for his contributions to Johns Hopkins Medicine and for advancing our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Sincerely,

Paul B. Rothman, M.D.
Dean of the Medical Faculty
CEO, Johns Hopkins Medicine
