Help Make the Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program a Success To Johns Hopkins University and Health System Faculty and Staff Members Dear Colleagues: We are proud to support the highly successful Johns Hopkins Summer Jobs Program (JHSJP) once again this summer, and we invite your department or work unit to participate in this valuable initiative. Your commitment by April 28 will help the JHSJP committee plan for a high volume of student applications. To host a student this summer, please view the department request instructions or visit the program's website, www.hopkinsmedicine.org/summerjobs. As you may know, JHSJP was created in 1994 by the Office of Community and Education Projects at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. It provides Baltimore City students, ages 15 to 21, the opportunity to work during the summer at Johns Hopkins University or Johns Hopkins Health System. The students are placed in meaningful assignments that enhance their personal and professional growth, while giving Johns Hopkins faculty and staff members the rewarding opportunity to mentor a young person. Our experience last year again demonstrated the potential and impact of the Summer Jobs Program. As a result of your willingness to host students, we were able to place 326 Baltimore City youth in more than 100 locations across the Johns Hopkins Institutions. For your support, we are truly grateful. To ensure the program's success, we need broad participation across Johns Hopkins. We invite and strongly encourage your department or work unit to participate in this beneficial program by providing opportunities for student interns at no cost for hourly wages. Only through our collective investment, including the continued support of Johns Hopkins departments and volunteers, can JHSJP serve Baltimore youth in this manner positively affecting their lives—and Baltimore's future. We hope you will consider hosting one or more interns this summer, and we offer our sincere thanks for your support of this worthwhile initiative. Sincerely, Ronald J. Daniels Ronald R. Peterson |
