Inclusion Is in Our DNA - Johns Hopkins' Founding Letter To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community Dear Colleagues, Nearly a century and a half ago, our founder, Mr. Johns Hopkins, wrote a letter to the trustees in which he established his vision for the medical center and the principles that would guide the enterprise. Those values—respect, dignity, integrity, inclusion, excellence and diversity—have stood the test of time and continue to provide us with inspiration and direction today. Johns Hopkins Medicine remains steadfast in our commitment to oppose bigotry, discrimination, violence and intolerance toward any group. We are a world-class institution because of the dedication and invaluable contributions of our faculty, staff and students, who represent all races, ethnicities and faiths. We are Johns Hopkins Medicine. We must continue to embody our founding values and stand together in support of each other, even during difficult times. As a reminder of our charge from Mr. Johns Hopkins, we want to share with you a video message, reflecting on our history, our promise and our future. Thank you for demonstrating our core values every day in your interactions with each other and our patients, and for continuing to foster a diverse and inclusive culture at Johns Hopkins Medicine. #HopkinsBetterTogether Sincerely, Paul B.
