Hip and Knee Replacement Division Receives The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval

It is with great honor and excitement that we announce that the Johns Hopkins Hip and Knee Replacement Center, located at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and part of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, has received The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is the second hospital in Maryland and the first in the Johns Hopkins system to receive this approval.

This advanced certification, which only is bestowed on Joint Commission-accredited hospitals, critical-access hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers, recognizes programs that elevate the caliber, consistency and safety of their services—resulting in high-quality patient care. This past September, the Hip and Knee Replacement Division at Johns Hopkins Bayview underwent a rigorous on-site review during which Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with advanced disease-specific care standards and total hip and total knee replacement requirements, including orthopaedic consultation, and preoperative, intraoperative and post-surgical follow-up care by our surgeons.

Achieving this certification speaks to the excellent, safe and efficient patient care provided by Paul Khanuja, chief of the Hip and Knee Replacement Division, the entire team of hip and knee specialists, and all of the professionals who support the division and care for our patients.
