First Issue of Connections To the Johns Hopkins Medicine community Dear Colleagues, When The Johns Hopkins Hospital opened in 1889, the goals were to serve our community and, to quote our founder, provide care for “the indigent sick of this city and its environs.” Those principles are part of our DNA. Serving our communities, within our hospitals and beyond, remains a key component of the mission for all of our Johns Hopkins Medicine entities. In fact, over the last two years, we have redoubled our collective efforts to improve and strengthen our local communities, especially in the city of Baltimore. To share updates about what Johns Hopkins Medicine is doing as an organization to support the communities we serve and to provide opportunities about how you can help, our teams in the Dean’s Office, the Office of Government and Community Affairs, and the Marketing and Communications Department have created Connections, a quarterly e-newsletter that will arrive shortly in your inbox. This newsletter reflects some of the tremendous work being done by all of you throughout our organization, and not just in Baltimore. There is still a great deal of work to do to ensure that all of our neighbors have equal opportunities. Despite any challenges we face, we remain committed to investing in our neighborhoods and our communities. Enjoy the newsletter, and thank you all for your dedication. Sincerely, Paul B.
