To the school of medicine faculty and staff

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Baligh R. Yehia, M.D., M.P.P., M.Sc., will join Johns Hopkins Medicine as the interim senior medical director for community care in the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians and the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, beginning Oct. 2.

Dr. Yehia comes to us from Washington, D.C., where he served as the deputy undersecretary for health for community care and chief executive of community care at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). During his tenure there, Baligh led the VA's Office of Community Care, overseeing more than 7,000 employees, five business lines and multiple contractors across the United States.

Dr. Yehia is actually returning to Johns Hopkins, where he completed the Osler residency in 2009. He earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Florida. Upon completion of his internal medicine residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baligh completed his infectious disease fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania. While there, he earned a master's degree in health policy research, followed by a master's in public policy degree from Princeton University.

At the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Yehia was responsible for directing a robust National Institutes of Health and industry-funded clinical research program focused on understanding and improving access to health care. He also was the founder and director of the Penn Medicine Program for LGBT Health.

Dr. Yehia will have a number of roles at Johns Hopkins Medicine. As an associate professor of medicine, PAR, member of the Division of Infectious Diseases, he will see patients once a week in the John G. Bartlett Specialty Practice and pursue scholarly activities related to HIV.

Within the Office of Physicians, Dr. Yehia will provide physician leadership to support the evaluation process of converting one or more Johns Hopkins practices to a Federally Qualified Health Center. He will also work with Sibley Memorial and Suburban hospitals to support physician alignment strategies in the National Capital Region.

Dr. Yehia will assist the Office of Care Coordination and Clinical Resource Management to ensure seamless transition of patients from the hospital to the ambulatory medical community to improve patient outcomes and reduce total cost of care.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Baligh Yehia back to Johns Hopkins.
