Laurice Royal Appointed Interim Vice President of Human Resources for The Johns Hopkins Hospital

To vice presidents, directors, managers, administrators, supervisors and managers of The Johns Hopkins Hospital

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Laurice Royal, currently the practice group leader and chief legal counsel for employment and labor affairs for the Johns Hopkins Health System, has agreed to serve as interim vice president of human resources for The Johns Hopkins Hospital, effective Dec. 5.

Laurice is a strong leader with more than 30 years of experience in employment, labor and accessibility law, and a solid understanding of the priorities of human resources. For more than 22 years, she has brought an impressive record of leadership, energy and creativity to Johns Hopkins, serving as a trusted adviser to those in human resources and other executives throughout the health system.

As interim vice president, Laurice will provide leadership to the hospital’s human resources team and oversee our efforts to attract, engage, develop and retain the world’s best people, while fostering the highest quality of care for our patients.

Prior to joining the Johns Hopkins Health System, Laurice was a member of the Litigation Division in the Baltimore City Solicitor’s Office and served as chief counsel and adviser to various city agencies, handling employment and labor litigation and arbitration. Laurice earned her B.A. from Smith College and her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. She is an active volunteer in many area community and professional organizations.

I am grateful to Laurice for her willingness to assume this interim position while we conduct a national search for a vice president of human resources. Please join me in welcoming Laurice to this new role.

Sincerely,

Redonda G. Miller, M.D., M.B.A.
President, The Johns Hopkins Hospital
