Thompson Appointed Senior Vice President for JHM January 19, 2005 Dear Colleagues: I have asked Steve Thompson to take on yet another important job for Johns Hopkins Medicine, effective immediately: Senior Vice President of Johns Hopkins Medicine. From the time I first came to Johns Hopkins as director of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Steve has been at my right hand, initially as department administrator. He has done an extraordinary job with JH International, opening doors that led not only to expanded clinical opportunities, but also to new research and educational partnerships. More recently in his role as Vice President of Ambulatory Services Coordination he has led efforts to expand our ambulatory network. His unique experience and knowledge of both the School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Health System should be of immense value in JHMs continued evolution. In his new position, which will report jointly to me as the Dean/CEO and to the Executive Vice President of Johns Hopkins Medicine (Ron Peterson), Steve will coordinate and oversee the planning, integration and growth of JHMs clinical enterprise. He will work closely with the clinical chiefs and CPA leadership, as well as with the leaders within the Johns Hopkins Health System (hospitals, JH Community Physicians, JH Home Care Group), and the Ambulatory Development Group to implement the clinical programs developed by each department and JHM entity. Steve also will oversee management of our external clinical business relationships, such as Patient First, as well as the marketing programs in support of the clinical enterprise, and will lead the staff preparatory work for the JHM Business Review Group. As part of this change I am combining two of Steves existing JHM positions: VP Ambulatory Services Coordination and Vice Dean for Administration into this new position. He will also continue to lead the efforts of Johns Hopkins International. My expectation is that with Steve in this new Senior Vice President post, there will be a more meaningful interface between our hospitals and other components of the JHM ambulatory network. Im sure I can count on you to lend him all possible support. Sincerely, Edward D. Miller, M.D.
