Great Place to Work

    January 15, 2005

    Dear Colleagues:

Three years ago, we set a goal for The Johns Hopkins Hospital to become an “Employer of Choice” and a Great Place to Work®. Since then, we have conducted two Employee Satisfaction Surveys, listened to your feedback and implemented many changes.

In May 2004, The Johns Hopkins Hospital was invited to participate in the 8th annual survey for FORTUNE magazine's list of the "100 Best Companies to Work for” ® in America. We applied and were pre-selected among companies which appear to have exemplary workplaces based on the nominations they received.

The majority of the FORTUNE “100 Best” list is employee-driven, with two-thirds of the scoring based on an anonymous employee survey that evaluates trust in management, pride in work and the company, culture, communication and camaraderie. We also completed a culture audit, focusing on demographics, benefits and compensation and work-life balance offerings.

This was the first time The Johns Hopkins Hospital participated in the process. Although, we were not selected for this year’s list, we will receive feedback on our application. This valuable feedback will show us where we excel as well as identify opportunities for improvement.

We would like to congratulate those organizations who made the list this year. If you would like to see this year’s list, go to http://www.greatplacetowork.com/ or pick up the January 17th issue of FORTUNE magazine.

We’d like to thank the employees who took the time to participate in the survey. We believe Hopkins is a great place to work and were excited to be considered for this award.

We know the journey to becoming a great place to work is as important as the final outcome. We want to support the employees who give so much of themselves to help us achieve our mission of patient care, teaching and research.
