In early 2020, we began construction in our main emergency department to re-shape this important entry point for care - to both improve patient flow and to provide crucial safety enhancements. That work, which was put on hold due to our COVID-19 response, resumed Feb. 15.
A key component of the renovation project is the installation of magnetometers in our adult and pediatric emergency departments. These metal detectors became active in the pediatric ED and the psychiatric emergency services area in March. Metal detectors will be activated in the main emergency department on April 26.
